Our Longstanding History

Founded in 1960 by Bruce Buckton, his father James Buckton, Alf Patten, and Jack Mogenson, BPM Trading Co Pty Ltd built its beginnings on paper packaging, knitting wool, and haberdashery supplies.

Our original location was on the grounds of what is now North Sydney Boys High School, at the corner of Falcon Street and Miller Street in North Sydney.

For many years, Bruce, his father James, and cousin Jack worked passionately in the business they created, nurturing strong bonds with customers and staff who became like family.

Like many family companies, the current management spent their childhoods in the warehouse—collating orders, taking phone calls, and delivering goods after school or during school holidays. Family cars were packed with orders, and later, their children joined in the tradition. Sales trips across Sydney, and holidays revolving around deliveries in NSW and QLD, were all part of the journey that grew BPM Trading Co Pty Ltd into the thriving business it is today.

From humble beginnings with hand-painted ex-Post Office vans, our fleet has evolved into a modern network of trucks, vans, and distribution systems, delivering products to customers throughout Australia and internationally.

Over the last six decades, our company has continually grown and adapted to meet changing market needs. From being a major distributor of knitting wools, zippers, haberdashery, and paper products across NSW, we now supply over 35,000 products to large chains, high-volume clients, and the hospitality, aged care, childcare, retail, and industrial sectors throughout Australia and internationally.

With each generation, we’ve expanded our product range to make ordering easier for our customers. Why spend time hunting for what you need when we can provide it all in one place? After all, your time is valuable, and that’s why we do the searching for you.

After Bruce passed away in the early 1990s, his eldest son Robert continued the legacy he had built. Around the same time, the market was shifting, and many haberdashery shops across Australia were closing.

Under Robert’s leadership, the company broadened its offerings to include food packaging, paper, and washroom products. The arrival of Kimberly-Clark in Australia boosted our washroom supply range, and collaborations with local and multinational manufacturers allowed us to expand our disposable food packaging portfolio, providing customers with a wider variety of innovative solutions.

We’re proud to be one of the first and longest-running independent distributors of Kimberly-Clark Australia’s complete range of products, including Kleenex, Scott, WypAll, Viva, Huggies, Depend, and Poise, and to have been recognised with numerous distributor awards throughout our history.

In the early 1990s, BPM Trading Company Pty Ltd joined forces with Polycane Sales, founded by Robert’s father-in-law, Carl Toovey. This union of family businesses expanded our offerings, providing customers with rehabilitation equipment, outdoor furniture, shade structures and materials, as well as a full range of hospitality furniture, cleaning, catering, and medical trolleys.

After relocating five times over the years—from North Sydney to Manly, Dee Why, and Cromer—in 2013, with the fifth generation soon to arrive, we purchased our custom-fitted warehouse in Brookvale. This larger facility gave us the extra space we urgently needed. today the warehouse hums with activity, from daily deliveries from manufacturers to the constant packing of orders for our valued customers.

Striving to protect the environment and reduce our carbon footprint, we’ve invested in solar panels, LED lighting, and hybrid vehicles, along with green lawns and gardens around our warehouse. Our products are ethically sourced as locally as possible, ensuring our entire range prioritizes sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Throughout the years, we’ve helped our customers navigate major health crises—from SARS and bird flu to COVID-19—providing PPE that has even been shipped internationally to support pandemic efforts.

Supporting our community is important to us. Many of our staff are long-serving volunteers with Surf Life Saving Australia, and we continue to actively support local volunteer organisations.

Though we’ve been thriving for over six decades, the best chapters of our story are still ahead—stay tuned!
